Unorganized Thanksgiving Thoughts

Thanksgiving is a traditional thing. Ping and I continued our tradition of spontaneous travel. Well, almost. We almost went to Las Vegas at the last minute to spend the holiday there, then decided to stay at home anyway.

Thanksgiving is all about turkey. I really don’t care that much for those 30-pound birds and their dry, bland meat anyway, so Ping baked some chicken wings in the oven instead. Very yummy.

We used to do the black Friday early bird thing. But I wonder whether it’s worth the trouble getting in line at 5 a.m. in the harsh Chicago weather. Granted, there are still a lot of things that I want (like the big screen plasma TV or the Patek Philippe watch that I have always drooled over but will probably never buy), but I have just about everything I need, so I don’t have that much of a desire to shop anyway (cameras, as usual, don’t fit in this need-want dichotomy —- they, like oil & gas, are a consumable necessity always in shortage). We were talking earlier today that if we decide to stay in the US for one more year we might as well get a new car to replace the aging Civic that we bought right out of college. Then we realized that we really didn’t need a beemer when the little Honda was running just fine. So that was the end of the car talk.

Scan

Finally got the chance, and found a place (Rm 420, Regenstein Library), to scan slides. Took me a good few hours to scan just two rolls of RVP100 from January of this year. Then I gave up. Velvia has good colors and saturation, but I don’t have the time or the patience any more. It’s going to be all digital from now on.
